INHERITANCE TAX : CASE STUDY 2

BILLY AND WIN have both been married before. They are both quite well off and have don’t particularly want to get married again. Their total joint assets exceed £500,000 and included within this is one house they bought between them some five years ago. Their joint incomes are in excess of £400,00 p.a.. Billy has one daughter from his previous marriage and Win has a son and daughter.

They want to buy a house in Spain. Their assets will increase when two Life Policies mature later in the year and this will provide the funds.

Some planning needs to be done because they are not married and their two families must be protected. Also serious thought must be given to how they buy a property in Spain, including Spanish succession rules, wills, tax structures etc. SPANISH INHERITANCE TAX CAN BE AS HIGH AS 81.6%.
