The golden
rule must be, “Make a Will”. A will can
be very simple. And yet without one, your assets may
go to someone that you have never met! A distant relative
in Australia may suddenly inherit a fortune, when all
along you wanted the family of a very dear friend to
benefit. Also, because the inheritance levels under
which spouses and children inherit have not changed
for many years, the operation of these rules can have
some nasty consequences. A simple will is not expensive
if you employ a solicitor to do it. A complex one may
be but both are very important documents and should
not be entrusted to unregulated people. I ensure that
the correct procedure is adopted for the signing of
a will as well – a frequent problem when home
made wills are sent for Probate. |
